Japanese-Chinese-Thai

Anyone who loves Asian food and likes to order Thai, Chinese and Japanese from a delivery service or is looking for an Asian takeaway to pick up themselves will be familiar with sushi. Sushi is the best-known and most popular dish from Japanese cuisine. But Japanese food offers an even greater variety, as you can see in our Gigi Sushi.

Japanese udon noodles in particular are very popular with our customers in Pfäffikon, Au, Hirzel, Horgen, Horgenberg, Richterwil, Samstagern and Wädenswil. We use these noodles in tasty, wholesome soups or fried. In our rice and noodle dishes you will therefore find exclusive dishes with Japanese rice and Japanese noodles.

We invite you to get to know Japanese cuisine and show you popular Japanese dishes that are typical of an Asian restaurant.

Rice is the Japanese staple food

Japanese rice is eaten at practically every meal in Japan. For breakfast, the Japanese enjoy rice, fish, nori, tofu, raw egg and miso soup, among other things. Fish plays a major role alongside rice, as Japan is located directly by the sea.

Rice and seafood are at the heart of the Japanese diet. These include tuna in particular, but also seaweed ("kombu"), algae ("nori") and shiitake mushrooms. Bread has only been known in Japan since the Second World War.

Basically, all popular Asian foods are similar, but the Japanese attach great importance to ensuring that the products retain their natural flavor. They therefore only use spices and oils very sparingly. Some also attribute the high life expectancy of the Japanese to this type of diet.

Vegetables are also well-known and popular

The staple food, rice, is accompanied by fish, meat and/or vegetables at every meal. It is also served with sauces. The most popular drink to accompany meals is green tea.

Vegetables are often pickled. The Japanese most often use Chinese cabbage, turnips, eggplants and cucumbers as well as ume plums. However, these are green and unripe when pickled. They are pickled in rice broth, brine or miso broth and eaten for breakfast.

Eating meat was a taboo for a long time

The majority of the Japanese are Buddhists, which is the reason for the ban on eating meat. Ancient rulers forbade the consumption of monkeys, dogs, chickens, cattle and horses. As fish, whales and game were not expressly forbidden, there was at least a small loophole here. The meat of cattle, which were used as draft animals, was also not among the permitted foods. It was not until 1860 that the consumption of meat became more popular and around 10 years later the Emperor even permitted the consumption of beef. This resulted in a very well-known and popular stew, sukiyaki. Today, pork is also eaten in Japan. However, this only came into fashion in the 1930s. Whale meat, which was popular for a long time, has largely disappeared from the Japanese diet. It was prepared in many different ways (fried, grilled, deep-fried). However, since the end of the 1980s, whaling has only been practiced in Japan for scientific reasons and the meat is hardly ever eaten.

Our offer

So if you order Asian food or want to get something from a takeaway, you will rarely be offered whale meat. We at Gigi Sushi also do without whale meat in home delivery. Instead, we pamper the palates of our customers from Thalwil or Adliswil with other delights.

Look forward to delicious edamame and seaweed salads or soups. For example, the udon soups with chicken, duck, prawns or tofu. Or our miso soup. And above all, enjoy our sushi specialties.

You can also sample typical Japanese drinks, such as the popular sake or various types of beer. Our friendly staff will be happy to help you choose or advise you if you have any questions.
