Asian Food

Asian food is very popular in the West. Asians have extensive knowledge of food science and only cook with fresh, high-quality ingredients.

There are many different Asian cuisines, of which Gigi Sushi as an Asian restaurant with delivery service represents the three styles Japanese, Chinese and Thai.

Our sushi specialties are particularly popular with our customers in the catchment areas of Thalwil, Au, Hirzel, Horgen, Horgenberg, Richterwil, Samstagern and Wädenswil. But there are also many other delicious Asian cuisines.

Why does Asian cuisine have such a good reputation?

Our customers in Adliswil and Pfäffikon SZ appreciate Asian food because it is so varied and healthy. In addition to rice, Asians mainly use lots of fresh vegetables, fish and lean meat. They also eat soy or tofu, which contains healthy fiber.

One of the main differences to Western cuisine, where a lot of fat and oil is used for frying and deep-frying, is the gentle preparation of the food. Here, most of the food is placed in the wok and steamed without fat.

Selected spices give the dishes their incomparable taste and are also healthy. In Asia, they are often said to have healing properties. They also stimulate fat burning in the body and aid digestion.

Which healthy vegetables are used for Asian food?

The typical Asian food that you can get in restaurants or from delivery services in Switzerland or in Europe in general uses fresh vegetables. Many popular vegetables used in Asia also grow in our latitudes. We can therefore source many varieties locally, especially for the popular chop suey (vegetables, bamboo shoots, mushrooms, mung bean sprouts).

Asian vegetables, which also thrive in our region, include, for example:

  • Chinese cabbage
  • Bitter melon
  • Edamame
  • Winged bean
  • Ginger
  • Okra
  • Pak Choi
  • Soy
  • Lemon grass

Beans

We have known about soy for a long time. It is used to make animal feed, tofu and soy drinks. The green seeds from the still unripe pods are traditionally used in the Japanese dish "edamame".

Okra comes from Malaysia, India and Africa. It is sometimes also called the gombo bean. These fruits are often found in Indian curries. They are less popular raw, as they have a somewhat slimy consistency. They are versatile and can also be fried or blanched.

Wing beans are completely edible. Leaves, roots, seeds and fruits are all edible. They are found in India and Thailand, among other places, and are used in local cuisine. They are mainly used in the wok or in fresh salads. The leaves can be prepared like spinach.

Cabbage

Chinese cabbage originates from South East Asia and has influenced the dishes of Japan, Korea and China. It is best suited for wok dishes or kimchi (Korean sauerkraut).

Pak choi is a cabbage plant, but tastes very little like cabbage. Externally, it looks a little like Swiss chard. Pak choi can be used for salads, as a side dish and for wok dishes.

Miscellaneous

Ginger is spicy and hot and is also considered a medicine against colds and fever.

Bitter melon or bitter gherkin belongs to the pumpkin family. This vegetable is either sautéed or steamed when unripe and seedless. If the bitter melon is allowed to ripen, the red seeds come out. The red, sweet flesh can then be used.

Lemongrass is a sweet grass that is mainly used in savory or sweet dishes. It is also used in drinks and soups.
